Course Content:
Algebra Honors is a rigorous course designed to develop the algebraic concepts and processes that can be used to solve a variety of real world mathematical problems and prepare you for Algebra 2.

Classroom Expectations: Everyone has the ability to learn; when you enter the classroom it is expected you will be ready to do so. Proper behavior and a polite attitude are also required. Be positive, do your very best, and ask me for help when needed.

Students are expected to comply with the following:
* BE PREPARED, PARTICIPATE & LEARN- Have your materials and homework daily & have your ID badge. Be on time, ready to work and active in your learning.
* LISTEN CAREFULLY, WORK QUIETLY & DO NOT BE DISRUPTIVE
* FOLLOW DIRECTIONS & ALL SCHOOL RULES- Listen to spoken and read written directions. NO ARGUING!
* IPODS & CELL PHONES- turned off & out of sight or they will be confiscated. There is no debating this issue.
* RESPECT- Me and my personal property, your peers, & this classroom.

Sleeping or putting heads on desks are not allowed. You will be asked to stand if you repeatedly do so. If you are not feeling well during class, please see me.

*Any rule violations will result in removal from the classroom, student conferences, detentions, parent involvement, and administrative referrals (IS/ES).

Tardies- Unexcused tardies will result in a loss of daily participation points. After 5 unexcused tardies, you will receive a detention & referral. Each tardy after results in a referral.

Pass Policy: Students will receive five out-of-class passes per quarter. Unused passes may be turned in at the end of the quarter for points added to your participation grade. DO NOT lose them as you will not be issued additional passes.

Suggested Class Materials:
In order to be successful in class you should bring the following to class everyday:
*3-ring binder & tab dividers * Pencils- ALL work is to be done in pencil * Notebook paper (EVERYDAY) *Scientific calculator
It is your responsibility to come to class prepared!

Grading Policy
Class grades (100%) are based on:
40% Tests,   25% Quizzes,   35% Homework, Classwork & Participation

All assignments are posted on my webpage. Assignments that are not turned in receive zeros. If absent, you have 2 days to make-up the work. It is your responsibility to get the assignment from someone in class or from my website and also to copy the notes. Students are not permitted to turn in missing work at the end of the quarter. (Do not procrastinate!) I do not except late work from when you are present in class.

***Tests & Quizzes will be made up the following day if missed.

All grades are available on-line. It is up to you to keep up on all classwork, homework, tests and quizzes. Check you grades often to ensure that you are learning and maintaining a satisfactory class grade. If you have concerns about your class performance and/or grade, please see me immediately.

Keeping your binder organized and up-to-date will be part of your participation grade in class.

Grading Scale
The academic grading scale conforms with the guidelines established by the School Board of Broward County:

A= 100 – 90 B+= 89 – 87 B = 86 – 80 C = 76 – 70
C+= 79 – 77 D+= 69 – 67 D = 66 – 60 F= 59 – 0

I have read and understand what is expected of me in Ms. Schiano’s Algebra 1B class. I agree to follow all class rules as well as Monarch’s Knights’ Code.
