class information and policies

1. All school policies concerning absences and tardies will be strictly adhered to!
2. Attendance: It is necessary for you to attend class every meeting. Missing class will put you behind and can adversely affect your grade in the class. If you are not in class you can not earn participation points even if your absence is excused.
3. Home work: There will be home work every night. Home work will consist of reading assignments, writing assignments, or project work.
4. Make-up Work:
*If you were in class when an assignment was given and miss class on the deadline date, the assignment is due upon your return to class. You do not receive 2 days per your absence; the assignment was given to you previously. Remember this is a college or honors level class.
*If you are absent when an assignment is made, it is your responsibility to get the assignment from a fellow classmate. If you do not understand the assignment, see me after class for an explanation.
You will have 2 classes to get an assignment completed for any in-class work. There will be no extensions for missed days on assignments that are given in advance.
5. Deadlines: Dates for DEADLINES are given in advance, so it is expected that you get your work in on time. Work will NOT be accepted late.
6. Extra Credit: There will be minimal extra credit assignments in this course. DO NOT come to me and ask for extra credit work if you are not happy with your grades. Extra credit will be offered only to the entire class. If you do your work and do it well, you will not need extra credit!
7. Grades: Grades are not given; they are earned in this course.
*There will be approximately 500 to 1000 points assigned each quarter. The number of points earned by each student will be added together then divided by the total possible points available thus giving the student his/her percentage for that marking period.

GRADING will occur on a variety of assignments including:

writing, discussion responses, public speaking, group work, outside reading, tests, quizzes, presentations, and PARTICIPATION. Participation includes paying attention rather than being off topic when I am lecturing. Participation includes respectful behavior which allows the class to proceed and progress.

It is your responsibility to keep track of your grade. If you have a question or concern about it make an appointment to see me after school.

DO NOT ASK ME ABOUT YOUR GRADE DURING CLASS TIME.

ASSIGNMENTS:

All assignments are due at the beginning of class when the bell rings.

No credit for work done on spiral bound paper.

No credit for any work done in pencil (other than scantron tests)

No credit for any work done in ink other than blue or black.

All revisions and final drafts should be typed, double spaced, twelve point font, MLA rules apply.

Correct heading is required, WITH NUMBER, on every assignment in the upper left hand corner as follows:

                           Date

                           Period

                           Assignment Name

Failure to follow these guidelines will result in a lowered grade.

FAILURE TO TURN IN ASSIGNMENTS WILL RESULT IN A ZERO.

Use a planner to write down assignments and refer to it.

Have a buddy list of at least two trustworthy classmates to call if you are absent for any reason. This is your responsibility.

RULES:
