Friday Allusions Test. Review Grammar test. Sign exam exemptions. Warm up # 30 Grammar exam. Tomorrow will be the allusions test 16-30. Study. Grammar Re-Test on Thursday, for a higher grade. Quiz on Chapters 5-11 on Their Eyes Were Watching God. PSAT Wednesday - Sleep well and early; have a wholesome breakfast. Warm Up # 29 "White Elephant". Vocabulary # 7 quiz . Work on grammar folders and MLA format.Read and listen to "The Raven" a poem of grievous loss. Identify the sound devices in the poem. Draw conclusions about the poem. Read and discuss p. 394- 395. Conventional and free verse. Warm Up #28 Monday 10/12. Revise research papers one last time, together as a class. Compare and contrast Walt Whitman with Pablo Neruda.
W.U. # 27 "Svengali". Review research paper requirements. Read, discuss and act out sections of Walt Whitman's poems in groups. Warm up # 26 "Sword of Damocles". Complete Data sheets with students. They will work in the text on pages 394-409. Form in Poetry and Whitman and Neruda. When complete we will review the nonfiction tests.
Warm up # 25 "Golden Calf" Data Day calling up individual students to discuss college plans and high school goals. so silent reading of Civil Disobedience and work on Transcendentalism. Homework questions 1-8. DATA DAY all period, work on the board for silent work while I meet with each of you individually. Pleas consider what you want this class to help you with? Perhaps prepare for dual enrollment next year? Take AP Literature? Let's discuss it. Warm up # 24 "Left-handed Compliment". Voc. # 6 quiz. Then p. 336 look at the painting, the quotation, and the unit title and infer what you'll read in this unit. Questions 1-5 on the board. Then read the historical and literary background p. 340-347. Read the poem "A Psalm of Life", answer ques 1-3 on p. 347. HW> read " The Devil and Tom Walker", answer Comprehension questions on p. 360. Warm up # 23 "The Emperor's New Clothes". Nonfiction multiple choice test demands careful study. There was a review on Thursday, but as honors students it is up to you to ask specific questions on what is unclear. Look in a dictionary if you don't understand a word (or several) in The Declaration of Independence. Word wall extra credit due today, only. |
Read the Gothic background p. 446-448. Author study p.450-453, why study Poe. P. 454 discuss the plague and allegory, then listen to the audio of "The Masque of the Red Death". Answer questions in blue in the margins .Concentrate on clarifying the meanings and possible allegory.Then partner up and review the story to find allegorical meanings and complete the chart. |
