Welcome to English II Honors. Throughout the semester you will be exposed to a variety of texts and writing genres. Of Mice and Men and Antigone are two of the many texts we will be studying this semester. The literature will be supplemented by vocabulary, writing assignments, grammar, and projects. In addition, students will be required to read a book of choice for silent sustained reading (SSR). SSR will be evaluated through a response journal and/or a project.

Grades:

Warm-Up 10-30 points

Daily Assignments 20-50 points

Homework 20-50 points

Assessments/Writing Prompts 50-100 points

Projects 100-200 points

Late work will be accepted if the absence is excused; otherwise, all work must be turned in on the due date. Make-up work is the student’s responsibility. Weekly assignments are posted on the class webpage and printouts can be picked up in class upon request. If a student chooses not to make up work, it will be entered as a zero.

Rules:

Respect yourself and others.

Participate in discussions and activities.

Turn cell phones off before entering class and keep in bags or purses.

Follow all classroom procedures.

We will be using computers for various assignments and students are expected to stay on task at all times. Our use of the computers is meant to enhance learning, but computer privileges will be lost if misused.
