COURSE CONTENT: Intensive Mathematics is a course designed to cover many mathematics and algebra concepts. Deductive reasoning will be used to solve real world problems. Areas of study will include vocabulary, operations with real numbers, algebraic equations, inequalities, scientific notation, exponents, absolute vale, surface area, finding slope and more.

WORD PROBLEM ASSIGNMENT:
Example using #1: Maxine had 11 corrupted music files out of 37. Dominique had 17 corrupted files out of 47 she downloaded. How much greater was the percentage of corrupted files for Dominique than for Maxine? Answer: Maxine: 11 divided by 37 = 29.7% Dominique: 17 divided by 47 = 36.2% 36.2% - 29.7% = 6.5%. Dominique’s percentage of corrupted files was 6.5% greater than Maxine’s. Rubric: 1) The student writes a word problem that clearly conveys the math concepts involved (45 points total): 25 points It is easy to identify key math concepts 20 points It is easy to identify what the problem is asking you to solve 2) The student clearly demonstrates how to solve the problem and provides a correct answer (45 points):
25 points Steps to solve the problem are written out in sequence 20 points The calculations in the steps are correct as well as the answer. 3) Do not write a novel, but please show some creativity when writing the word problems. Have some fun (10 points) |
