Course Overview Welcome Knights to Tech Studies. The purpose of this class is to provide students with a foundation of knowledge and technically orientated experiences in the study of technology. The content and activities will be lab generated, focusing on transferable skills that stress the understanding and demonstration of machines, tools, equipment and processes used in business and industry. Lab instruction and activities provide hands on learning in a laboratory setting with state of the art equipment, tools and machines appropriate to the course syllabus. S.T.E.M. LAB Science ...hands on learning, modeling and material science, Newton's laws, thrust, equilibrium, lift and drag, force and motion Technology...state of the art lab, design and problem solving, ability to build and create, explore and do troubleshooting Engineering ...structural design and esthetics, scale and modeling, destructive testing, power and energy systems Math ...testing and evaluating, processes of measurement, collect data and analyze, build knowledge through problem solving Lab Safety All safety procedures need to be followed everyday in the lab. Students must pass a Lab Safety Test before starting work in the lab. Safety instruction will be given on all equipment before students use the equipment. Eye protection must be worn in the Production Room when tools or machines are used. Safety is no accident....think before you work. Tech Lab Rules 1. Follow directions 2. Arrive on time and quietly be seated. 3. Be prepared for class. 4. A portfolio is required for class 5. Do not touch any equipment with permission from Mr. Kager 6. All work areas must be cleaned before leaving. 7. Use and apply the Knight's Code (stick to the code) Grading Policy -students will be given a rubric or a grading procedure for an activity or assignment. -all work will be started in class, since this is a lab class almost 100% will be completed in class. -some seat work not completed in class may be finished for homework and turned in the next day. -Not turning in class work or projects will result in a zero grade for the assignment. |

Make Up Assignments -all students are responsible for work missed due to an absence from class. It is the student's responsibility to ask the teacher for the make-up work upon returning to class following an absence. -students have two days to complete the assignment (School Board policy)

Materials -students are expected to have a portfolio for class work and bring pen/pencil to class everyday. -lab projects will require more materials and will be discussed when the assignment is introduced in class. |
