Students are advised to wear their I.D. badges at all times and that they may purchase a new one, if necessary, during lunch or in the morning.

Students will be given an activation code for books on line (www.classzone.com/eservices) and advised to sign up by tomorrow.

Expository Writing prompt is the first writing composition sample of the year.
Day Three: Novels will be assigned today for at home reading! Begin reading: The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison

Diagnostic test on Grammar skills.

Day One: Final Review of Elaboration in Writing and other vital parts of an essay.

Day Two:Begin discussion on Novel reading "The Bluest Eye" by Toni Morrison

Day Three: Complete Grammar in Context (Active & Passive Voice) exercise 1-5 on p. 123 in Language of Literature textbooks. Refer to pgs. 534-535 for additional help with Active/Passive Voice. This is due by the end of class.
Day Four: Model strategies necessary to answer questions in the Language and Usage Packet!

Each student will receive a folder.

Day Five:Begin reading short story entitled: Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Pg. 20-29. Complete the during and after reading activities in the Interactive Reader Workbook. Complete the 'Harrison Bergeron' Active R eading Skillbuilder: (Making Inferences). You can find instructions for this assignment at the bottom of page 20 in the textbook. Determine (Theme).

Classwork:In Writing and Grammar workbooks CH.16.1 Ex 1&2 p.3 and Ex. 1 p. 4In Language of Literature textbook Classwork: Grammar in Context:Proper Nouns pg. 29 Objective: How to use proper nouns to suggest character traits and convey a satirical and realistic tone.

Day Two: Finish reading short story: "The Witness for Prosecution" and discuss utilizing the critical thinking questions and extended interpretation on page.

Day Four: Take a test on the sonnet!Email me your answers as an attachment and I'll let you know your results in class. This is a great way to determine how well you understand the sonnets.
Day Five: Sonnet (final copy) is due on Tuesday. Make sure it is typed, you have read pages 225-227, and followed the guidelines on pages 233-236.

All work (reading of novel, notes chart, study questions) should be completed today. Begin reading, 'The Pit and the Pendulum' by Edgar Allan Poe beginning at page 559 in Language of Literature textbook. Work through the story in Interactive Reader beginning at page 184.  Reading and interactive reader should be completed by the start of class on Wednesday. Refer to day three of this week for upcoming writing assignment and begin thinking about what you may want to write.

Day Three:The Pit...Pendulum work is due today! Writing Option #2 page 576 in Language of Literature textbook. Students will write a Poe Parody or comic imitation, of Poe based upon the story. For example, students may create a narrator who is "tortured" by the process of waking up on a school day. Try and imitate Poe's style. Due Thursday by the end of class.
Day Four: Continue Writing Option #2 (Poe Parody or comic imitation, of Poe based upon the story page 576 in Language of Literature textbook). Check your work to make sure you have imitated Poe's style. Work should be typed and turned in by the end of class today.
Day Five: Complete Vocabulary in Action exercises A and B page 576 in Language of Literature textbook. Complete Grammar in Context appositive phrases page 577 (1-4) in Language of Literature textbook. Complete Exercise 3 Identifying Appositives (1-5) page 446 in Writing and Grammar textbook.
