Solo and Ensemble Festival Vocal Solo Info

A. The solo/ensemble festivals are intended to provide student musicians an opportunity to perform a solo or an ensemble in front of an adjudicator and a limited audience, and to receive constructive comments, both spoken and written, from the adjudicator.

B. The primary benefits to the students are the experience of performing alone or in a small group, and a critique from someone other than their regular music teacher(s).

A. All vocal entries are required to perform two numbers if on the senior high level or one if on the junior high-middle school level. For senior high school soloists, one number must be selected from the current  FVA Music List. The second may be chosen from any appropriate literature.
     All music must be memorized.
B. A simple art song, well done, is usually more within the capabilities of young singers
     than opera arias.
C. The vocal judge should have information as to the number of years the student has
     studied and judge accordingly.
D. Music used in one year may not be used by the same entry the following year.
E. Any participant who uses duplicated copyrighted material or does not provide music  for the judge(s) will be disqualified.
