ALGEBRA II HONORS
Teacher: Ms. Goodno Email: monique.goodno@browardschools.com
Room: 257 Period: 3
Text: Algebra 2, McDougal Littell Replacement Cost: $57.39
Course Description:
Algebra 2 Honors is a rigorous course designed to continue the study of the structure of algebra and to provide the foundation for applying these skills to other mathematical and scientific fields. Topics may include the following: structure and properties of the complex number system; arithmetic and geometric sequences and series; relations, functions, and graphs extended to polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions; varied solution strategies, including the quadratic formula for quadratic equations; conic sections and their applications; and data analysis, including measures of central tendency and dispersion, and probability, permutations, and combinations.
Requirements:
You are required to be prepared for class each day.
Being prepared in this class means: arriving on time, (doors will lock at the bell – school policy), wearing school ID at all times, bringing a pencil, as well as your binder with all homework and notes needed. You are also required to follow all school rules, as well as adhere to all classroom expectations.
Grading Procedure:
Your grade will be based on quizzes, tests, homework, class work, and participation. Tests are announced several days in advance allowing plenty of time for extra help. Short quizzes will be given regularly.
All items are assigned a point value. Tests are worth 50 – 65 points, quizzes are worth 20 - 35 points, and daily homework and class work/participation is worth 0-10 points per assignment. Therefore, TESTS/QUIZZES = 70% HW/CW/PARTICPATION = 30%.
No late homework will be accepted! All assignments are to be done in pencil with ALL work shown in order to receive full credit!
Make-Up/Extra Help:
Make-up days are Monday and Wednesday after school.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get make-up work and complete it in two days from your return to class.* If a quiz is not made up within the two days, then the following test grade received will also be the grade for the missed quiz. Use your syllabus, and my webpage as a guide for missed assignments.
Extra help is available before and/or after school, with notice. There is also free peer tutoring available every Monday and Wednesday in room 257.
*PLEASE refer to your student handbook for all school policies on make-up work for excused and unexcused absences.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Pencils, pencil sharpener, three ring binder, 5 dividers, loose leaf paper, protractor, and scientific calculator are all strongly recommended.
NOTE: A four-function calculator will be the only calculator available in class; no scientific calculator will be provided for use in or out of class. |
GEOMETRY

- Ms. Goodno’s Classroom Expectations:
1. RESPECT ME, RESPECT THOSE AROUND YOU, & RESPECT THIS
CLASSROOM.
This classroom has zero tolerance for rude, inconsiderate, distracting,
or disrespectful behavior. I emphasize ZERO TOLERANCE.
2. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.
As growing young adults it is important to take responsibility for all your actions, your work, and yourself. Taking responsibility for all aspects of this class will only allow you to succeed to your best potential; as only YOU have control of the grades you earn.
3. FOLLOW PROCEDURE.
- In this class you will follow a pretty regular routine. Upon arrival, wearing your school ID, you will take your assigned seat quietly, remove bags from desk or lap, take out your binder and turn to your warm-up section, take out all necessary items needed for class including the previous night’s assignments, and you will immediately give me the respect to start a productive class.
- In order to leave my classroom you will have to give me an EXIT PASS to have the hall pass. You will be given 5 EXIT PASSES the first week of school – give me a pass and you can leave the room. HERE’S THE CATCH: At the end of both 9 week quarters, for every EXIT PASS you did not use I will give you an additional 1% on your final grade. At the same time, if you use all your passes and insist on leaving my classroom you will be deducted 1% from your final grade for each time you leave.
- Sleeping is not part of math class. If you put your head down I will ask you to sit up, if you continue to do so, then you will be subject to stand for the duration of the class, or be sent to the nurse and you will not be given an excused absence for making up work. Therefore, avoid having to deal with those options and GET PLENTY OF SLEEP!
4. PARTICIPATE & ASK QUESTIONS.
Throughout class if you have a question or need clarification on anything PLEASE feel free to ask by raising your hand quietly, as I strongly encourage questions.
I will also be continually prompting for your involvement, as it also plays a role in assessing your progress throughout the course.
5. FOLLOW ALL MONARCH HIGH SCHOOL RULES.
You know the rules – FOLLOW ALL OF THEM.
Keep phones, MP3 players, headphones, and whatever device you know is not supposed to be in school, out of my sight and turned off. If I see it, I take it.
6. EXTRA CREDIT & GRADE OPPORTUNITIES.
- It is highly recommended you keep a binder in order to stay organized throughout the semester, although you will not be required to. If you do choose to keep an organized binder, at the end of each quarter I will collect and correct your binder for an extra credit grade worth at least 30 points. Please see me for “Binder Guidelines” to use for preparing your binder throughout the semester.
- At the end of each quarter I average all your homework and class work together, if this average is higher than your lowest test grade, I will swap out the low test grade with the higher homework/class work average. (This does NOT include zeros/non-made up tests.)
- Your Exit Passes are your best source of extra credit; therefore I suggest staying in class and holding onto your passes.

• EXTRA CREDIT BINDER GUIDELINES
In order to receive full extra credit for your binder check please use these guidelines.
This page will be kept in the front of your binder with the course
syllabus & classroom expectations sheet. It will count for a point each
time the binder is checked.
• BINDER MUST BE: A THREE RING BINDER with FIVE DIVIDERS of any kind. The binder will be divided into the following sections in this order:
1. Syllabi Sheets
2. Warm-Ups
3. Notes
4. Assignments: Homework & Class Work
5. Graded Assignments
• Binder Grading: The binder will be graded once per quarter (nine week session). The grade will be based on a checklist of items that must be included in the binder. You will not have the checklist ahead of time. Therefore, it is important to keep your binder up to date at ALL times. The grade will count for at least 30 points extra credit!
1. Syllabi Sheets Section:
At the beginning of each week, you will receive a weekly overview which includes content to be covered, skills to be learned, assignments, and assessments. These should be kept in chronological order in the appropriate section.
2. Warm-Ups:
Every day you will begin class with a few warm-up problems to be done in this section only. This will include FCAT problems, vocabulary, and problems pertaining to the lesson at hand. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO DATE ALL WARM UPS!
3. Notes Section:
Almost everyday you will be taking notes that will be of important use for you to do well in this class. Always put the date, the lesson number, and the topic at the top of your page. (This is the ONLY area of this class where pen is permitted!)
*Geometry: You may choose to put your Noteable sheets here.
4. Assignments: Homework & Class Work:
All assignments must be done in the assignment section, in pencil, with the due date and assignment in the upper left or right hand corner with your name. These will also be kept chronologically in the appropriate section.
5. Graded Assignment Section:
Tests, quizzes, and all graded work will be kept, according to date given, in the last section. |
