Eerie Graveyard Scene, Ghost Face, Bloody Text, Combined Effects

Eerie Graveyard Scene

1.             Find a photo of a graveyard on the internet. Be sure that it is set to RGB and not index. Go to Image>Mode>RGB.

2.             Duplicate the background layer by dragging it over the new layer icon at the bottom of the layers palette.

3.             Go to Image>Adjust>Invert. Change the layer blend mode to Darken.

4.             Duplicate the original background layer again and move it to the top of the layers in the layers palette. Set the layer blend mode to Overlay.

5.             Add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer (Black and white circle icon on layers palette). Move the Saturation slider to the left to about –90 to –95. Click OK. Set the layer blend mode to Darken.

6.             Add a Curves adjustment layer (Black and white circle icon on the layers palette). Type in 232 for the input and 60 for the output. Click OK. Set the layer blend mode to Screen.

7.             Click on the first Background Copy layer. Add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer (black and white circle icon on the layers palette). Click on colorize and move the Hue slide to pick a color. Click on OK.

8.             Add text. Apply an inner shadow and glow. Reduce the opacity.

9.             Save as a jpeg. Do not close, you will be using this scene in your combined project at the end of todayÕs lesson.

 

 

Ghost Face Effect

1.             Open a photo image of a person; head shot.

2.             Go to Image>Adjustments>Desaturate. This removes the color.

3.             Go to Image>Adjustments>Levels.
Adjust the levels as needed in order to blacken the background but leave details in the face.

4.             Set the colors to their default settings, and use the paintbrush to blacken out areas not covered in the levels adjustment.

5.             Duplicate the layer.
Filter>Blur>Gaussian blur. Select a setting between 3 and 4 depending on the resolution of the image.

6.             Set the layer mode to screen.

7.             Add a Hue/Saturation fill or adjustment layer (black/white circle on layers palette)
Select a hue that adds just a little color to the appearance.

8.             Save as a jpeg. Do not put this single file into the drop box, you will be using it for the combined project at the end of todayÕs lesson.

 

 

Bloody Text Effect

1. Create new file with 72 PPI and white background. The mode has to be Grayscale. Type the text with thick font. Image > Mode > Grayscale. Type in word you can use as a title for the combined project. (See next sections).

2. Select > Load Selection (Choose Layer Transparency). Then go to Layer > Flatten Image and then Go to Select > Inverse

3. Filter > Pixelate > Crystallize (cell size 4). Then go to Select > Inverse

4. Noise > Add Noise, (Guassian, Monochromatic, Amount. 70)

5. Blur > Guassian blur (Radius 2.0)

 

 

6. Image > Adjust > Curve (make the curve as shown in fig. above)

7. Press Ctrl + D to deselect. Image > Adjust > Invert

 



8. Image > Rotate Canvas > 90 CW. Then go to Filter > Stylize > Wind. Method : Wind Direction : From the Right

 

9. Image > Rotate Canvas > 90 CCW. Then go to Image > Mode > RGB

 

10. Image > Adjust > Hue Saturation. Click Colorize. Drag the Saturation slider to 100. Drag the Lightness slider to -5

 

 

11.       Save the text, but do not close it yet.

 

 

 

Combining all the Effects:

Open the Eerie Graveyard you completed in the first section. Blend in the ghost face somewhere in the background or on one of the grave stones. Then add the bloody text to the image as a title. Save the final product as a jpeg, and put into the drop box. (300 pts)
