Office Hours:  Monday- Friday 1st block. Office hours may also be arranged during class, or by email when appropriate.

Course Overview:

This course will provide you with the basic foundation needed to understand the history of the world. In chronological order, from the beginning of civilization to World War 1 and beyond, we will cover a multitude of historical concepts that have helped to shape this planet.

Course Materials:

Three-ring binder with dividers, pen and/or pencil, and a capacity to learn!

Class Rules and Requirements:

  • You are expected to come to class on time and prepared to learn.
  • Journals must accompany you each and every time you enter the classroom.
  • Come ready to participate. Your knowledge of the material will be tested on a daily basis.
  • Always sit in your assigned seat. Failure to do so will result in an absence.
  • Respect the classroom and your fellow students. I expect each and every student to behave in a mature and appropriate manner. Misconduct will be handled appropriately.
  • No Food or Drinks in the classroom. This is a school policy.
  • Classwork is to be done in the classroom only. Daily activities must be finished at the end of each day, unless told otherwise.
  • Do not get up for dismissal until the bell rings. Each class is 90 minutes long and getting ready for dismissal before class ends is a distraction!
  • You are required to wear your official Monarch High School I.D. badge to class each day.
  • Following these rules will assist you in having a great year!

Classroom Evaluation/Grading:

You will be graded based on your grasp of the concepts and knowledge discussed in class. In addition to the standard quizzes and tests, you will keep a journal that will contain various classwork assignments regarding historical studies and concepts. You will also be responsible for two projects that will be discussed at a later date.

Evaluation:

Tests: 30%

Participation: 25%

Classwork/Homework: 20%

Quizzes: 10%

Projects: 15%

The grading scale will be handled as follows:

A: 90-100

B: 80-89

C: 70-79

D: 60-69

F: 59 and below

Cheating will not be tolerated, and if caught, a grade of “F” will be given for the semester. Remember to always use proper sources and references and give credit when appropriate.
