Class Title

                                                                      World History Honors Project 1

Objective:

The Black Death was a horrific disease that ravaged most of the world killing more than 25 million people in Europe alone. However, the Black Death has not been the only disease in history to bring suffering and despair to mankind.

You will research one of the following diseases:

Malaria, AIDS, Rabies, Smallpox, West Nile Virus, Yellow Fever, Anthrax, Syphilis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Leprosy, Lyme disease, Typhoid Fever, Q fever, Measles, Pancreatic Cancer, Lung Cancer, Leukemia, Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Melanoma, Chicken Pox, Tuberculosis, Meningitis

After researching your assigned disease, you will type a five page report discussing the history, effects, and cures(if any) of that particular illness. Many of these diseases have histories that originated hundreds of years ago. An exemplary report will detail case studies, side-effects of the disease, signs of infection, and the countries currently experiencing the illness.

Format:

1700 words TYPED

Be sure to include a title page, and a bibliography.

Each source that you use MUST be cited using MLA format.

A minimum of FIVE sources(at least two books) must be used.  We have a fantastic media center at Monarch High School…USE IT.

You will have at least one opportunity to conduct research in class; all other research must be completed on your own time.

Be sure to focus on the historical aspects of the disease, rather than the scientific aspects.
