| Target Area: All students scoring a Level 1 or Level 2 on the SSS FCAT Reading Test given in March, 2008. |
| Class Content: Fluency, vocabulary development, and reading comprehension practice using fiction/nonfiction, poetry |
| and other genres. We practice learning strategies that incorporate critical thinking skills, and the writing process. These |
| learning strategies will be beneficial for standardized testing and content area subject reading and class work. |
| Materials: Our school wide Instructional Focus Calendar addresses the Sunshine State Standards and this is used as a |
| guide for classroom instruction. Various texts are used with a focus on the standards required for success leading up to the Reading FCAT in March, 2009. |
| Texts: Some of the texts used in class are, EDGE, Jamestown Signature Series, Timed Readings, Vocabulary |
| Drills, and various novels and interactive books. We also have additional reading websites and programs that are available for use in the classrooom on laptops. We also use TeenBiz3000 with our laptops. TeenBiz3000 is an outstanding interactive computer program to increase comprehension, vocabulary and writing proficiency. |
| Assessments: Program specific quizzes and tests throughout the year. Students will also be taking mid-term and final exams. |
