Text: AHA Heart Saver CPR/ARC Community First Aid and Safety
Materials Required: Paper, pens,/pencils, and a 1 inch, 3-ring binder for the final project.
COURSE CONTENT: This course will investigate the following topics using textbooks, computers, guest speakers and other resources.
- Safety-Scene safety; Expected danger; Protection from Blood-borne pathogens; Exposure to blood or body fluids
- First Aid Procedures-Know injury-prevention and injury-management strategies for personal, family, and community health; Care for cuts, scrapes and bruises, burns, poisoning, sudden illness
- CPR (Adult, child and infant)-Know the different procedures for adult, child and infant; Procedures for choking and checking an unconscious victim
- Community Resources and Services-Agencies that provide and promote emergency care, safety, and disaster preparedness (medical facilities, poison control, EMS)
- Career and Public Service Opportunities-Knowledge of careers and public service opportunities in first aid, safety, and emergency management
Classroom Expectations:
- Be on time and come prepared with required materials to learn
- Complete all assignments and makeup work in a timely manner
- Refrain from drinking and eating in class
- Be polite to one another and speak respectfully at all times
- Follow all Broward county student policies
Homework: There will be a few assignments to complete at home. Use class time wisely and use your home time to study if necessary.
Make-up Policy: Follow the school board policy on make-up work requirements if you are absent.
Grading: The point system is used to calculate grades.
