Project 1- "Eye x 25 " For this project, you will be using the same "eye" image to create 25 (yes, 25!) variations of the eye. By working through these exercises, you will be learning techniques that can be used later on and you will become more familiar with what you can do with Photoshop. You should save all of the images into a folder titled "yourname.eye folder" As you work through the lessons, which are pretty easy, label the image as "001" "002" and so on.

|
Project 4 - Comic Strip Pop Art Images You will be creating two images in the comic style of Roy Lichtenstein. You will be first creating an image using the directions, then you will create your own image, using what you have learned in the directed lesson. Lesson Adapted from: Photoshop Fine Art Effects Cookbook by John Beardsworth |

Lesson Adapted from: Photoshop Fine Art Effects Cookbook by John Beardsworth |

Pointillism is a form of painting in which tiny dots of primary-colors are used to generate secondary colors. It is an offshoot of Impressionism, and is usually categorized as a form of Post-Impressionism. Post-Impressionism is an umbrella term that encompasses a variety of artists who were influenced by Impressionism but took their art in other directions. |

For this assignment, you will be creating two images that emulate the work of Vincent Van Gogh. The first image will be directed, using the images below. You will create the second image using one of your flower images (not the close-up image) OR a portrait of a person (a head-shot) Lesson Adapted from: Photoshop Fine Art Effects Cookbook by John Beardsworth |

Project 8 "Joiners" - a Photo Collage Technique Between 1982 and 1987, artist David Hockney experimented heavily with photo collage, creating works he called joiners. A joiner consists of a series of photographs taken from different viewpoints, arranged (overlapping) to form a single piece.
|
|
Images of a scene created by a number of smaller prints often overlapping and at angles rather than the simple straight line are called 'joiners'.
David Hockney popularised both the method and the term in the early 1980s. |
Project 9 Digital Mandala A Mandala is a circular image that includes symbols that relate to you and your being. For this assignment, you will be creating two Mandalas - one is a directed image using at least 5 of pictures that are provided. The other mandala will be one that uses images that represent you and your life. Do not use images of people for this assignment. |
|
In practice, the mandala has become a generic term for any plan, chart or geometric pattern which represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically, a microcosm of the universe from the human perspective.

For this assignment, you will basically follow the directions for the mandala, however, you can use whatever filter you wish (you don't have to use the stamp) and you don't have to fill in areas with the paint bucket. Be creative! come up with a good design that illustrates your ideas about peace. When done, save as a JPG and put in the teacher drop-box. Label the image: yourname_pinwheel |

Project 12 Sgt. Pepper image You need to get started on this assignment because it may take a while. You are going to emulate the artwork on the Beatles "Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band" album cover. Part 1 The first thing you are going to do is decide on a theme. Choose something that you are really into - i.e. music, art, football, cartoons, baseball, etc. It should be a topic that includes a lot of people (not objects). You will need to find 64, yes 64, people related to your topic - people that are important to your topic. You will need to search and find 64 images of these people. Try to find full length figures that are not too small (because they will become pixellated when you put them into your image). First collect the images, then delete the backgrounds so that all you have is the person - no background. Save these in a folder. Part 2 - directions
|

While you are collecting these images of people, make a list of the names of these people and write a sentence as to why they are important to your topic. Don't just forget about this part of the assignment.... For the Sgt. Pepper album, open the document below to see the names of the 80+ people in the image. |
Project 13 - Patterns For this assignment, you will be creating two designs using pattern. The first design will be created following specific directions. For the second design, you will use your name to create a design. This design will be repeated, rotated and flipped to create a pattern. |
|

Project 14 Abstraction For the first part of this assignment, you will zero in on a flower and in the process, you will abstract the image, much in the style of Georgia O'Keefe. For the first image, you will use one of the flowers provided. Now, create another abstraction, using your own image - this should not be a flower - it should be an object of some sort that you will abstract much like the previous assignment of the flower. |
