Monarch
High School will meet the needs of Knights from our feeder schools in Exceptional
Student Education (ESE) Programs.
Appropriate placement as outlined in Gifted students’ Educational
Plans (EP’s) and Exceptional students’ Individual Educational
Plans (IEP’s) will be honored at Monarch High School.
INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES EDUCATION ACT (IDEA) ELIGIBLE STUDENTS
Monarch High School offers a variety of programs to meet the needs of
Knights with a variety of disabilities. Students’ exceptionalities
are addressed individually as part of their Individual Educational Plan
(IEP)s.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT AN E.S.E. STUDENT’S PLACEMENT AND DIPLOMA OPTION
ARE DECIDED UPON BY THE I.E.P. COMMITTEE AT THE STUDENT’S ANNUAL
REVIEW.
Regular Diploma Option
Many Knights with ESE eligibilities choose to work toward a standard diploma.
This diploma decision includes mastery of Sunshine State Student Performance
Standards, passing score on the Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test
(FCAT), and completion of 25 credits, including Algebra. The only ESE
course offered for these students is Learning Strategies, a multiple-credit
elective course taught by an ESE-certified teacher. In Learning Strategies
students are offered a specialized curriculum to help them with test-taking
and study skills. Individualized and small-group instruction to assist
Knights with their general education courses also is addressed in this
class.
Special Diploma Option
As documented on the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP),
these students must master Sunshine State Standards for Special Diploma
but may enroll in classes with a modified or alternative curriculum.
Monarch High School offers the following:
• VARYING EXCEPTIONALITIES CLASSES in academic areas at Knights’ instructional levels with a specialized curriculum and smaller student-teacher
ratio.
• SPECIALIZED VARYING EXCEPTIONALITIES CLASS designed for Knights
functioning at supported academic levels who are capable of living and
working with supervision when they graduate. These classes also provide
for a smaller student-teacher ratio.
