My name is Mrs. Charlene Kleiman and I am the BRACE Advisor at Monarch High.  I am here to assist you with all your post secondary choices.  Whether it is a 4 year college, in state or out, a 2 year community college, a vocational/technical school, military service, apprenticeship programs, or entering the work force, the BRACE office has information.

DID YOU KNOW?

Kettering University, once known as the General Motors Institute in Michigan, is a top producer of

mechanical engineers and the largest applied physics program with co-op in the nation.  They also have an almost 100% placement rate.

Want to check out a school, but it's too far away?

Bryant University in Rhode Island offers Fly-in Reimbursement.  You will be reimbursed for up to $150 of your ticket price after you visit the university.  If you enroll, they refund the remainder (up to $300).

 

UNUSUAL SCHOOLS

Have a love for Motorsports?  How about a career in the business end of NASCAR?

Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, North Carolina offers a 4 yr. degree in Motorsports Management.

Looking for a small  college whose mission is to graduate students passionate about their environment and dedicated to solving social problems?  Located in central Arizona, Prescott College emphasizes small class size, field based courses and real life experience.

Only 1 major!  College of the Atlantic in Maine has just one degree program.  It is a B.A. in Human Ecology.  No matter what your interest - politics, art, medicine - it's all interdisciplinary.  65% of all students go to graduate school.

 

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS

 

If you are planning to apply to any of the 11 State Universities, you will need an application.  The easiest way to obtain one is to go directly to the university’s website.  You will also need to send a transcript to each school and the “transcript request form” is available on the Monarch website, in Main Guidance or here in the BRACE office.

SAT or ACT tests are required for entrance into our state universities.

You can register on line:  www.act.org - www.collegeboard.com  or pick up a paper application in the BRACE office.

University of Florida

Preferred Application Date:  November 1, 2008 – Decision by Feb. 13, 2009

Applications still accepted until March 1, 2009, HOWEVER, consideration on a space-available basis. 

 

Florida State University

The next and final deadline is January 21, 2009 with a decision by March 18, 2009. 

Florida International University  Update:  Beginning Oct. 14th there will be a new FIU on-line application.  If you have started an on-line application, but not completed it by the 14th, you will lose all your information.   You would then need to begin a new application.

 

PREFERRED APPLICATION DEADLINE:  November 1, 2008

Space Available basis deadline:  March 1, 2009

University of North Florida

Final Deadline:  January 30, 2009 – Decision by February 27, 2009

New College

 

Deadline:  February 15, 2009 – Decision by April 1, 2009

University of South Florida, University of West Florida, Florida A & M University, Florida Atlantic University and University of Central Florida  are all on a Rolling Admissions basis.  BUT REMEMBER  the earlier you apply, the better your chances.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS

 

The criteria for obtaining scholarship money are wide and diverse.

It can be for academics, a particular major, an ethnic background,

financial need, an essay on a particular subject, or the specific school you are going to.  Each scholarship has a different deadline.  Other scholarships may not be due until December, February or even June.  Sometimes you may be the only student who applies.  The key to obtaining scholarships is applying and meeting deadlines.

 

BEWARE OF ANY COMPANY THAT WANTS TO CHARGE YOU FOR A SCHOLARSHIP OR FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION.

THERE ARE COMPANIES THAT ARE INTERESTED IN SCAMMING YOU.  CHECK WITH YOUR BRACE ADVISOR IF YOU ARE UNSURE.

COLLEGE VISITS

During the course of the school year, many colleges and universities will be on campus to visit with students.  These visits will be advertised on this web page and in school announcements.  Students must pick up passes from the BRACE office and have their teacher’s signature excusing them from class if they wish to attend the visit.
