This year, we kicked it off with a trip to SeaWorld Orlando to learn about Zoological Careers, a behind-the-scenes tour that gave an indepth insight into some of the many fields of the career world. Everyone got to experience the Shark Encounter behind-the-scenes, along with getting the chance to interact with and pet baby sand sharks. Also, we got the chance to interact with and feed the sea lions and seals at Pacific Point. Our time spent at SeaWorld Orlando was a great success, and the students received a lot of knowledgeable information for future career choices that have been made available to them. Also, we were all able to take home with them the memories that they will cherish for a lifetime to come! CHECK OUT THE PICTURES! THEY'RE POSTED IN THE "PICTURES FROM THE 2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR" SECTION OF THIS WEB PAGE! THERE'S ALSO A SHORT VIDEO, SO BE SURE TO TAKE A LOOK AT THAT, TOO! 3-02-12: In honor of Florida SADD's Buckle Up and Drive Month, Monarch High's SADD Chapter conducted a Seat Belt Check Day on Friday, March 2nd, 2012, after school, during dismissal, in the east parking lot. All members participated, along with Ms. Ziff, in conducting a thorough seat belt check within all cars exiting the parking lot. Students were positioned at the east end of student parking, as well as the area of the lot that's closer to the school, involving both student and faculty cars. The seat belt check was conducted from 2:40 p.m. to 3:05 p.m. During this time, with all cars accounted for, we are pleased to announce that we counted 150 CARS WITH ALL PASSENGERS WEARING SEAT BELTS! Our car quota this year was consistent with our quota from the 2010-2011 school year. So, we didn't surpass our goal, but at least we stayed consistent! Thank you to everyone for being so patient with our routine event. And, thank you for your continued support! Seat Belts Save Lives! So, please, always remember to BUCKLE UP AND DRIVE!
3-01-12: Wow! It's March already? Goodness, this year is just flying by! Updates for today: Seat Belt Check Day is tomorrow, Friday 3-02-12. Please remember to use your green pass to meet Ms. Ziff outside in front of the school at 2:30 p.m. Don't forget to bring a basket with handles, if you have one. Our next meeting is on Thursday 3-08-12 in room 554 after school. It's our final meeting before our trip to SeaWorld (Reminder, the trip is Friday 3-09-12). This is a very important meeting, so everyone must attend! Remember to bring at least $5.00 for snacks purchases for the bus ride to SeaWorld. All final questions will be answered, and any extra, last minute inquiries can be made at this meeting, so have no fear! Everything will be made clear and set in stone before the end of the meeting! 2-17-12: New pictures have been added to our GHOST OUT page! ***PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR NEW GHOST OUT PICTURES!!!*** Scroll all the way down to the bottom to view the new pictures. Thanks! 2-17-12: UPDATES: Teen DV Month is still continuing to be successful! More and more people are reading those posters and info flyers everyday! Child Abuse Prevention Month is coming up in April. We are planning to have a fundraiser in order to raise the $100.00 needed to purchase our campaign materials. The campaign that we've decided on is "Stand Up For Children" Pinwheels. We plan on decorating the courtyard with the blue and silver mylar pinwheels, depending on the results of our project approval. Next, we're in the works of planning yet another fundraiser...our annual charitable fundraiser. We're planning to have this year's charitable fundraiser at Duffy's Sports Grill in Deerfield Beach. The date is still pending, however. And, our cause is also still pending. However, we're thinking about doing it for some kind of cancer. Last year, we did it for a kid's cancer hospital in North Carolina. I think this year we should do it for something in Florida. Our field trip to SeaWorld is fast approaching...21 more days to go! Remember to bring in at least $5.00 to our March 8th meeting for snacks for the bus ride. Our next meeting is on Thursday, February 23rd. The location is to be determined. Ms. Ziff will update Kelsey on the location when it has been decided, and she will inform everyone. Thanks guys! Doing an awesome job as always! Keep up the great work! 2-09-12: Hey everybody! Guess what?! All of our money has been raised for our field trip to SeaWorld! So, it's now officially official....we're going to see Shamu on March 9th, 2012! Congratulations, you guys! I'm so proud of you all! And, I'm very excited to provide everyone with this wonderful educational opportunity of a lifetime! Plus, it's an honor to hear that I'll be taking some of you to SeaWorld for the first time! How amazing is that?! Again, I'm so excited! Right now, I'm very proud to be the sponsor of SADD! Our meeting coming up next week on February 16th will be in room 532 after school. We'll be discussing Relay for Life, Seat Belt Check Day, Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the Anti-Gay Bullying article mentioned at today's meeting. Don't forget to brainstorm over this next week and bring your ideas to the table at the next meeting for bigger and better fundraisers. We need a good one, considering we'll need the funds to purchase materials for our campaign for Child Abuse Prevention Month. The fundraiser needs to be commence after spring break, so get those brains crackin'! Have a great weekend, and I'll see everyone on February 16th in room 532! 1-26-12: Don't forget, we've added another meeting to our list. Our next meeting is Thursday, February 2nd, 2012, afterschool in room 504. Latest update: Educational Field Trip being planned for March 9th, 2012, SeaWorld Orlando, "Zoological Careers", $25.00 per student. This trip is pending approval. However, if everything goes according to plan, the field trip approval form should get back to us by next week. And, if the trip is approved, then students are to receive their permission slips at the 2/2/12 meeting. Your permission slips and your $25.00 will be due to Ms. Ziff by the end of the school day on Friday 2/3/12 in room 504. Ms. Ziff and SADD President, Kelsey Hammarlund, to attend the Broward Sheriff's Office Anti-Bullying Initiative Event on Monday 1/30/12 at 6 p.m. at Coral Springs Center for the Arts. We will be representing Monarch's SADD Chapter, and Ms. Ziff will be representing the Coral Springs Teen Task Force for Healthy Choices. Don't forget, we've changed the date of our last official meeting to May 17th. And, we're also planning to have an end of the year bowling party on 6/01/12 at Sawgrass Lanes in Tamarac. Lots of exciting stuff happening and coming up. I'd say that right now is an excellent time to be a member of Monarch High's SADD Chapter!!!! 1-02-12: Extra! Extra! Read all about it! It's a small, little blurp-it, but anything counts! ***CLICK HERE TO SEE OUR CLAIM TO FLORIDA SADD FAME!*** 12-10-11: My SADD students and I would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to all of the students, teachers, faculty, and staff who attended our GHOST OUT Assembly this past Friday. I am simply overwhelmed with the kind of support that was shown by everyone. This is the second year for SADD doing GHOST OUT, but this was our first time doing it the right way! And believe me, this is the way it will be done from now on! I can't express enough how much it means not only to my students, but to me, how much support we received. And, the applause at the end of the presentation - OH MY GOODNESS! That alone brought tears to my eyes and warmth to my heart! What made it a bitter sweet ending was my students jumping and cheering and hugging each other after everyone had left the auditorium. That scene to me was all I could ask for, not just as their sponsor, but as their mentor, their leader, and their friend. A special thanks goes out to yearbook, who provided us with two students that came to take pictures! Thanks, Ms. Holley! Please send me those pictures! :o) Mr. Neer, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to come and watch the presentation. Your presence there was absolutely the icing on the cake for my students. They couldn't believe it! I can just remember them all saying, "Oh my goodness...Mr. Neer is here! He came! He came to watch us! That's awesome!" (Yes, they all really did say that!) Another special thanks goes to Mr. Dixon and the student who so wonderfully put together all of our GHOST OUT announcements for the week. I know it was a lot of hard work. We greatly appreciate you helping us get the message out there! Another special thanks goes out to Officer Barretto and Mr. Spinelli! Thank you to the both of you for taking time out of your busy schedules to help SADD with our GHOST OUT Assembly. Having representatives of law enforcement involved in our presentation is truly one of the key factors that makes GHOST OUT happen. You guys did an awesome job, and everything was done with such deep emotion and grace. Your roles in the assembly were very much appreciated. Thank you for being so committed to a great cause! And lastly, yet another special thanks goes to the awesome, the amazing, the excellent TECH GUYS!!!! You guys were awesome! You helped make everything go off without a hitch! Marc, thank you for providing us with 3 of the most responsible, professional tech students I've ever met. They listened to my requests (and there were a lot of them!) and cooperated with everything I asked them to do. Also Marc, thank you for putting up with my many (and I'm sure annoying) e-mails and phone calls about GHOST OUT. But, I must say, you lived up to your promise to me, and you did everything you said you would do! So, THANK YOU! Please tell those 3 amazing tech students that SADD owes the world to them! Sound was great, mics were great, music was great, lighting was great, everything was done fantastically and flawlessly! Tell the tech students (and also to Marc as well) that a round of coffee and/or tea is on Ms. Ziff! Oh my goodness, words can't even begin to describe how I feel about this entire week that has passed. Monarch, thanks for helping SADD make GHOST OUT a big success! We can't wait till December 2012 to do it all over again! ***CLICK HERE FOR PICTURES!!!***

Let's keep this up gang! 11-03-11: Red Ribbon Week and our Anti-Bullying Campaign were both a complete success! We raised about $140.00 for our chapter. And, the most important thing is that we got both messages across to the student body: "It's Up to Me to Be Drug Free!" and "Take a Stand. Lend a Hand. Stop Bullying!" We have a new guest speaker for our Ghost Out Presentation - Maureen Barrett, a parent representative of the Broward Chapter of the NOPE Task Force. Our hearts go out to her for loosing her eldest son and daughter-in-law. And, she currently is going through a rough time right now, with her one son, who is still alive, struggling with addiction. Our deepest sympathy goes out to her. We've also received new literature materials for Ghost Out - a lot of resourceful information from the NOPE Task Force. Also, a big thank you goes out to our big contributors from our collection for our soldiers - Career Association and Keshia Ross, Gary Koesten and Alan Koesten, Ann Ayers, Nicole De Man, & Lenora Smoot and the Media Classes.
