Conquer the Information Age!

KNIGHTLY CHALLENGE #4: Searching the Thomson Gale databases- Student Resource Center

Directions:

1. Create a heading on another sheet of paper and title the paper Challenge #4.

2. Open another browser window and navigate to these directions.

3. In one browser widow go to the MHS Media Center home page, www.monarchknights.com/Mediacenter/index.htm. Click on the link for “research databases”. Keep the other window open at all times to the directions.

4. Click on the link for Thomson Gale.  There are a number of choices which you can explore on your own but for this quest you will click on the "Student Resource Center- Gold."

5. Type "renaissance" in the search box.  How many articles are there under the reference tab?  Record this information on your paper. How many "Primary Sources " did you find?  Record this information on your paper.

6. Click back on the reference tab and choose a Narrative Biography article.  (Hint- look to the right of the article to see the type of article it is) Who is the article about?

7. Return to the Student Resource Center home page.  Located below the Basic Search box are the six main categories listed for searching. (The categories are Cultures, Geography, Literature, Science, U.S. History, and World History) Choose the "Literature" link. Then click on "Literary Works". Next, locate the poem Beowulf.  How many articles are listed?  Then, select "Plot Summary" and read the introduction.    On your paper write a 3 to 5 sentence summary of the plot summary for Beowulf. The summary must be in your words!

8. Be sure to include the Source Citation for the article.

Homework:  Select an online newspaper article from Student Resource Center to write your current event assignment.  Be sure to cite your source.  Turn in your assignment to your Knights Seminar Teacher.  See your teacher for its due date.

Check the Challenge 4 Rubric to be sure you've included everything in your answers.
